Reverend Kenneth L. Cotton

Reverend Kenneth L. Cotton is the Pastor of Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas. He is a teacher and preacher who has spent over 30 years of preaching and teaching God’s Word. He served as Associate Minister and New Members Orientation Facilitator at Mount Gillion Baptist Church during his early years as a minister.

 

More recently, he served as Pastor of Goodwill Baptist Church in Pineland, Texas for 20 plus years.  Pastor Cotton also served as Secretary of the Ministers Division, Assistant Dean of Sunday School Congress and Facilitator of Baptist Doctrine while a member of the Sabine Valley District Association. He was also a member of the BM&E State Convention.

 

On May 31 2020, he became the Pastor of Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church. He became pastor during unprecedented times; the peak of the Covid -19 Pandemic. He did not hesitate but went right to work and began a Covid-19 response, prevention, and education program that included; social distancing, mask mandate, installed a thermal scanner, as well as signage. In addition, he sponsored Covid -19 Community Education and Mental Health Forums. These actions were proven to be effective. Even though the church continued to have worship, by the grace of God and the leadership of Pastor Cotton, there was no outbreak of Covid within the congregation.

Early Years

Pastor Cotton was born in San Augustine, Texas. He is the son of Rev. Reggie Lee Cotton, Sr. and the late Francis Louise Garner Cotton. Pastor Kenneth L. Cotton’s religious training during his formative years came from the teaching, preaching, and example of his father. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by his father. He was called to preach the Word of God at Mount Gillion Baptist Church in Center, Texas where his father served as Pastor.

 

Education and Training

Pastor Kenneth L. Cotton graduated from high school in San Augustine, Texas. He attended Advanced Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas. He also attended Andersonville Baptist Seminary, and Virginia Union School of Theology. Pastor Cotton continues to attend various educational and training programs and seminars in pursuit of excellence for the Master.

His Belief

The mission mindset of Pastor Cotton is that ministry have outreach at its core, because mission is something we do, not something we support.  The community where God has placed His Church is the mission field and our message brings life.  We know this because God inspired it. Jesus modeled it and the Holy Spirit empowers it and the people desperately need it. Pastor Cotton’s Motto is “I live what I preach.”

 

Personal

Pastor Cotton is married to his beautiful wife of 35 years, Marlene Etter Cotton.  They have one daughter Kendrese Jones (Jeremy) and 3 grandchildren.  His greatest joy is being  Paw Paw to Kaylee, Kade, and Kyle.
